    Question

Hello. I'm looking for some information about Fuji single/super8 film and cameras. I know that they had their own cassette design which was different from and superior to Kodak's in that it was laid out more like a cassette tape which enables you to do a lot more backwinding for double exposures. Does anyone have any experience using these cameras and this film? Is the film still being made? How available is it in the US? Is there black and white reversal stock made? Has anyone tried reloading a Fuji cartridge with Kodak film? How much do the cameras typically cost? My roommate is leaving for Japan tomorrow and I'm thinking about giving him some money to look for a Fuji camera for me. Any advice or experience that anyone could offer with this format would be very helpful.

    thanks!

If you can find a Fujica ZC1000, you'll be the happiest person on earth. They're awesome cameras with everything you could want. Here's a pic of one:

    zc1000

They've got c-mount lenses, mirrored shutter, infinately variable shutter, electronically activated single frame, multiple speeds including 72fps super slow motion, digital frame counter, unlimited backwind, built in contact switch for synch sound, etc. They're noisey but are built to last forever. Quite the machine.

I modified one years ago for a client to use 200-400 loads of Kodak film and it worked fine. I have never tried to load Kodak stock in a Fuji cartridge but you won't get much in there because the Kodak stock is thicker.

Man, if I had the bucks, I'd give your room-mate some money to find me one!

Man, that Babelfish translation of this website is like reading a really long haiku.
Especially the stuff about finding this old stock overseas and returning to the place of its birth.
They get around $27 for K40 with processing which really ain't that bad considering it's Japan.
I think the cheapest we can get it in the states is maybe $10 for a roll and $4.88 for Wal-Mart processing, but on the other end of the spectrum I had a friend grab some at a camera shop to mail to me and they were charging $16 without processing. Ouch.

Oh, and check out that hand cranked projector. Talk about simplistic charm. it reminds me of this old JVC VCR that a friend had years ago that we used to call the Fisher-Price VCR 'cause it looked like it was meant for a 3 year old with big colored buttons and top load.
